Who is Thomas Gruber?

EXPERIENCE TIROL lives not only from beautiful images and magical effects, but also from the story that connects everything. Visitors to the show will meet two characters, Thomas and Anna Gruber. But who are they? What makes them stand out? Thomas kicks off the introductions.

He is the father of the Gruber family, whose home we visit when we enter EXPERIENCE TIROL. Father Thomas is played by none other than Gregor Bloéb, one of Austria’s most popular actors and artistic director of the Tiroler Volksschauspiele. But let’s get back to Father Thomas.

In the original script, from summer 2022, his character is described as follows:

“Between 40 and 50, a handsome, charismatic man in his prime. Humorous, self-confident, focused. He is an outstanding engineer and specializes in bridge construction and cable car systems. He is a creative spirit, always interested in innovations and improvements. For the good of all. That makes him successful. In his free time, he enjoys collecting art and playing an instrument. He has a pronounced sense of aesthetics, which is reflected in his appearance as well as his hobbies and interests. He is open-minded and eloquent. His family is the most important thing to him. Actually. His job means he often has to travel. Which doesn’t make it easy for him and his family. He compensates for this by loving his children effusively and trying to make up for everything in the little time they have together. The focus is on gifts and shared experiences (sport). As a passionate collector of art and art objects that were made in Tyrol or by Tyroleans or that have played an extraordinary role in Tyrolean history, he also enjoys presenting them. Whenever there is time, he invites groups of interested people and gives guided tours of the family collection … where he talks at length and sometimes … oh, let’s not go there.

What is certain: Security and stability are very important to him. First and foremost, the financial security of his family. He also enjoys the prestige of his job. Not a classic careerist, but his job is definitely important to him. Which always causes tension within the family.”
